Intended Audience:
The course is designed for medical providers, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency, RN receives 16 continuing education hours upon completion of the course.
Course Description:
Through the ACLS course following the guideline of American Heart Association (AHA), providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.
ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
RN-2. ACLS Recertification/Retraining Level (8 Hours)
Intended Audience:
Participants who are currently successful ACLS providers may attend the second day of the provider course in order to be brought up to date on the new guidelines for ECC/CPR; to demonstrate their competence in resuscitation skills in order to renew their provider status for a two year period.
RN-3. 12 Lead (Advanced) ECG (8 Hours)
Course Description:
The eight (8) hour course is designed for critical care providers who desire to augment their overall level of electrocardiography assessment skills and will provide a conceptual approach to understanding the 12 lead Electrocardiogram. Participants increase their knowledge base of cardiac anatomy, electrocardiography principles, cardiac physiology, lead placement, and diagnostic principles.
This program will incorporate lecture content with discussion and practice sessions to guide learner’s application of the course content to their individual provider roles. Teaching methodology is designed to encourage the student to understand the correlation between the 12 lead electrocardiogram and the clinical patient status.
RN-4. Principles of Teaching Adult Learners (30 Hours)
Course Description:
This self-learning module will review the teaching-learning process and effective methods of teaching particularly as they apply to adult learning.
This self-learning module is designed to result in the following terminal objectives:
- Provide an overview for the subjects of teaching and learning principles.
- Offer clinical examples pertinent to the professional field of nursing.
- Provide continuing education hours meeting the Board of Registered Nursing.
- Provide continuing teaching-learning principles needed for the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician Examiners (BVNPT) in order to teach in a Vocational Nursing School.
LVN-1. I.V. Therapy Certification Course (30 Hours)
Course Hours and Content:
Courses in intravenous therapy must offer a minimum of 30 hours of instruction that includes 24 hours theory and six (6) hours of clinical experience. Additionally, each student must complete a minimum of three (3) individually supervised successful venipunctures on live subjects.
Course Completion Certificates:
At the completion of the course, instructors are required to issue a certificate of completion to each licensed vocational nurse (LVN) who satisfactorily completes the course. This certificate must include the course title; date of course completion; license’s name and license number; and course approval code issued by the Board. The licensee should be advised to retain this document in a secure location.
LVN-2. Blood Withdrawal Certification Course (6 Hours)
Course Hours and Content:
Courses in blood withdrawal must offer a minimum of six (6) hours of instruction that include three (3) hours of theory and three (3) hours of clinical experience. Additionally, each student must complete a minimum of three (3) individually supervised successful venipunctures and arterial punctures on live subjects and at least three (3) individually supervised skin punctures on live subjects.
Note: Certification authorizes the licensure to withdraw blood from peripheral venous site only.
Course Completion Certificates:
At the completion of the course, instructors are required to issue a certificate of completion to each licensee who satisfactorily completes the course. This certificate must include the course title; date of course completion; licensee’s name and license number and course approval code issued by the board.
LVN-3. I.V. Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification Course (36 Hours)
Course Hours and Content:
Courses in intravenous therapy must offer a minimum of 36 hours of instruction that includes 27 hours theory and nine (9) hours of clinical experience. . Additionally, each student must complete a minimum of three (3) individually supervised successful venipunctures and arterial punctures on live subjects and at least three (3) individually supervised skin punctures on live subjects.
At the completion of the course, instructors are required to issue a certificate of completion to each licensed vocational nurse (LVN) who satisfactorily completes the course. This certificate must include the course title; date of course completion; license’s name and license number; and course approval code issued by the Board. The licensee should be advised to retain this document in a secure location.
LVN-4. Basic E.K.G. (7 Hours)
Course Hours and Content:
This seven (7) hour course is designed for nurses and other health care providers who would like to learn, or review basic EKG dysrhythmia identification.
This course begins with the discussion of the physiology of cardiac conductions, and then covers the basics of how to read an EKG strip, and the normal components of the EKG waveform. We will then examine basic cardiac dysrhythmias, atrial and ventricular dysrhythmias, and blocks.
Course Completion Certificates:
At the completion of the course, instructors are required to issue a certificate of completion to each participant who satisfactorily completes the course. This certificate must include the course title; date of course completion; license’s name and license number; and course approval code issued by the Board. The licensee should be advised to retain this document in a secure location.
NCLEX-1. PN/VN Exam - Preparation Course
Course Description:
This course was developed to help candidates prepare to take the NCLEX-PN /VN examination. The course provides both comprehensive content review and NCLEX questions for practice. The content consists of an introduction, diagnostic pre-tests, a question and answer bank, and interactive exercises. NCLEX-PN Exam Preparation is a 60 hour course.
Course Objectives - After completing this course, the learner will:
- Become acquainted with the NCLEX-PN items by taking the pre-tests, 8 lesson post tests, and the question in the question and answer bank.
- Demonstrate knowledge of key aspects of each test plan category by completing the lesson post-tests with 80% accuracy.
- Increase confidence by: Completing the lesson, tests and exercises; utilizing relaxation techniques provided throughout the course.
Pre-requisites - Learners should be candidates preparing to take the NCLEX-PN Examination, typically graduates of nursing programs.
NCLEX-2. RN Exam - Preparation Course
