The student enrolled in the cardio vascular program will be trained in the following areas:
· Anatomy of the heart
·
Physiology of the heart
·
Pathophysiology of the heart
·
Vascular ultrasound
·
Ultrasound physics
Also, each student will be placed in an externship site.
The student must attend and successfully pass all five (5) modules in order to meet graduation requirements:
1. INTRODUCTION TO IMAGING: This module covers anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, patient care, basic math skills, various scanning planes pertaining to diagnostic imaging, understanding the 10 body systems.
The following will be studied: the introduction to the heart and the ultrasound relationship of the heart in two-dimension and M-Mode, comprehension of the structure and function of the heart, ECG. This module prepares the student to identify the symptoms of heart attack, and locate the correct scanning probe position for the various heart positions. *Note: Students in this module will attend classes Monday through Friday.
This course prepares the student to recognize and interpret the following: Valvular heart disease, prosthetic heart valves, cardiomyopathies, cardiac masses, and adult congenital heart disease. Recognizing and understanding the color flow doppler, continuous wave doppler and pulse wave doppler. Perform the basic scanning protocol and be able to write an initial impression. * Note: Students in this module will attend classes Monday through Friday.
This module will cover learning how to do ultrasound of the vascular system including carotid arteries, arterial ultrasound of the extremities and venous studies of the lower extremities. The students will be taught how to do doppler ultrasound including color flow imaging and analysis, and how to evaluate waveforms.
This course explains how diagnostic ultrasound physics works. It teaches the student instrument performance, measurements safety and risk factors and as well as theory of diagnostic ultrasound physics. Emphasis will be placed on information and technique necessary to pass the RDCS board certification exam.
