Course Description
COURSE LENGTH
Weekend Course (Saturday and Sunday)
The course is nine (9) months in length and divided into three (3) modules, includes Lecture and Laboratory
MODULE ONE
Normal cardiac anatomy, fetal transitional and neonatal circulation, normal embryological development of the heart and great vessels, segmental approach to Congenital Heart Diseases, echo evaluation of newborns and young children, fetal and transesophageal echocardiography, MRI and CT scanning
MODULE TWO
Pathophysiology and echocardiographic evaluation of congenital heart lesions ranging from the most common to the rarest, quantitative assessment of evaluation of CHD, patient history associated with conditions. Numerous case studies are reviewed.
MODULE THREE
Pathophysiology and echocardiographic evaluation of acquired heart lesions, pulmonary hypertension, heart transplant, assessment of tumor/masses seen in the pediatric population, catheterization for patients with congenital heart disease and the assisting role of echocardiography, adult congenital heart disease and three-dimensional echocardiography.
Numerous case studies are reviewed.
Extensive ARDMS Review for the Pediatric Echocardiography Examination
Laboratory Description
- Our state of the art clinical laboratory is equipped with Philips HD-7 machines.
- Our instructors have years of clinical and teaching experience and offer individualized scanning instruction to all of our students.
- Students will have hands-on training on real infant/pediatric patients in the laboratory.
- The laboratory portion of our course gives our students extensive scanning practice and knowledge.
- West Coast Ultrasound Institute has created the “My Child, My Heart” Program, which offers free cardiac screening to children in the community.
Clinical Externship
- Each student will be placed in a dedicated.
- Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory for (6 weeks) 240 Hours externship.
