A member of the West Coast Ultrasound student body had the honor of receiving a distinguished scholarship from her employer late last week. Dina Buzimkic (pictured), a senior ultrasound student at the WCUI Phoenix Campus, and a handful of other student employees pursuing medical careers received shares of the nearly $20,000 in scholarship funds that were raised over the past several months by residents of the Freedom Plaza Retirement Campus and Plaza del Rio Care Center in Peoria, AZ.
The Plaza del Rio Foundation honored Dina at an Awards presentation with some kind words from Board member and resident, Bill Fleming (pictured), followed by the presentation of her scholarship check. She expressed her sincere gratitude from the podium, and thanked all of the residents and scholarship committee members who helped contribute to her dream of becoming a licensed sonographer. Other honorees included a nursing student from Grand Canyon University, and a Clinical Studies student from Prima Medical Institute.
The Riggs Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded in 1997, as a means of enhancing employees potential through the benefits of continuing education. In 19 years, the semi-annual awards ceremony has presented 360 scholarships, funding $472,118 for tuition and books.Scholarship recipients are awarded based on academic achievement, work experience, and financial assistance needed to achieve their goals.
