Interview questions:

What got you interested in ultrasound?  Was there a moment when something “clicked” and you knew you wanted to be a sonographer?

I used to be a physician in my home country, and there diagnostic imaging is a specially trained doctor’s job. I was always interested in it. Diagnostic ultrasound is safe and widely used.

What have you accomplished in ultrasound while studying Ultrasound at WCUI?

I’m a general ultrasounds student and currently enjoy performing/observing range of studies at my externship site, where my skills are constantly improving. Every day I learn something new and I feel that I grow as a sonographer.

What obstacles did you have to overcome to get to where you are today in a position of success?

Performance of vascular studies did not come easily; I needed a lot of practice and dedication to get better at them.

Who are the role models in your life and how have they inspired you and helped you become successful?

My mother is my role model. She always encourages me and supports me in my career choice.

Tell me about some of memorable patients that you have cared for.

I remember one patient that came for his abdominal ultrasound study; he used to be a drug addict for 20 years and was able to find strength to quit and start a new life.

What advice would you give a student who is just starting out in ultrasound school?

Put all your energy into your studies, there is so much to learn. Use open lab hours to improve your scanning skills, since this is a hands-on profession. Attend workshops; you will learn protocols that are applied a lot in everyday life of a sonographer. Use all resources that this school offers. Do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it; the instructors are very knowledgeable, supportive, and always willing to help.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I like to spend time with my son, and do some outdoor activities, like going to the beach, and going for a hike or a bike ride…

What is one of your favorite memories from your time here at WCUI?

Pot luck meals; we got to try some good food after the tests were over …

How would your past instructors or coworkers describe you?

I think they would say I’m studious, determined, and willing to help fellow students.

What makes you unique?

This is the third country I have lived in (after Lithuania and Russia). I’m finally getting settled.

What is one of the hardest things about your job?

This is physically demanding occupation. Learn early about taking care about your body, and use the right ergonomics.

What goals do you have for yourself in the field of ultrasound?

I’m in the beginning of my career - the curve of learning never stops. I plan to learn echocardiography as well. The field of sonography is fascinating and challenging.
